What Is Your Car Worth To Sell or Trade-In?

A good source for estimating what your car' trade-in value with a car dealer, or to sell it yourself is Kelly Blue Book.

New and Used car dealers use the Kelly Blue Book as a guide for valuing trade-ins and pricing used vehicles.

Go to the KBB website and input your vehicle's VIN number, or enter the year, make and model, plus color, mileage and condition information to see what your vehicle might be worth.

The KBB trade-in and resale values are based on average values reported by car dealers nationwide and in your area.

Keep in mind that everything is negotiable, and you may be offered more or less for your trade-in depending on how anxious the car dealer is to meet their monthly sales quotas, and how successful you are at negotiating the best possible deal.

Where to Sell Your Used Car

Selling a used car yourself to a private party either locally or online can sometimes be challenging because of the type of people who may respond to your ad.

There are a lot of crooks out there looking for people to scam. Typical scams include inquires from offshore or out-of-state buyers who want to buy your vehicle sight unseen and then pay for it with a bogus money order, fraudulent check or wire transfer. That's why it may be safer and easier just to sell your car or truck to new or used car dealer, or a company that buys used vehicles for cash.
