Engine balance is critical to reducing engine vibration and stress. Balance is extremely important in high revving engines, as the force of any imbalance multiplies with speed. This article covers the theory of balance, the use of bobweights to spin balance the crankshaft, the process of balancing engine parts, and the latest in balancing equipment.

In a high-revving engine, any imbalance multiplies exponentially as the RPMs go up. A small imbalance at 1000 RPM becomes a huge imbalance at 8,000 RPM. An imbalance of only a few ounces can generate a force of over 200 lbs. at 8,000 RPM! That's a lot of shaking and stress on the engine's bottom end.....
